Sermon News, February 18, 2024, Mark 9:1-15: Does the Devil Have a Pitchfork?
Today, on the first Sunday in Lent, we read how Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness. Later, Jesus’ enemies call on the devil to badmouth Jesus. Sometimes they say Jesus is the devil; sometimes they call him a heretic or a traitor to the Roman Empire. They try to sow doubt in people’s minds about Jesus’ nature and integrity. And, partly, they succeed in confusing people and turning them away from Jesus, turning them away from God. And that leads us to the important question: How do we recognize a devil when we see one? Find out this Sunday!
