March 16, 2025, Luke 13.31-35: Kings and Judges

The kingdom of God is a realm without a government, without an interplay of powers. No senate, no king, no president, no police, nothing. God gave the law to Moses. The people are supposed to keep the law. When they do, no government is necessary. There is no need to make laws; God already did that. There is no need to enforce the law; the people want to keep the law. In the memory of the people of Israel, this mythical state of right relationship between God and people is the time of the judges that spanned from roughly 1300 BC to 1000 BC. During the period of the judges, the Israelites didn’t have a king, or a government, or a state. Only in the event of outside danger, for instance a military attack, God called the judges. They led the people through the time of danger and then they stepped back. How come we have kings and presidents now? What changed?

Come and learn more, this Sunday, 10 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 745 Front St. S, Issaquah, WA and on YouTube.
