Ascension of our Lord: Luke 24:44-53
“The strong do what they want and the weak suffer what they must,” said Greek philosopher Thucydides 500 years before Christ. He is known as the founder of the school of political realism, which proclaims that fear and self-interest guide behavior.
Christ gave us a different legacy. We can look without fear beyond mere self-interest. We follow Christ toward the kingdom of God, where the abundance of justice does not require any politics. God’s justice already flows into this world of brokenness and hurt. Imperfect as we are, we follow Jesus’ lead and strive to put neighbor love over self-interest.
Come and hear more this Sunday, 10 AM, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 745 Front St. S., Issaquah or on YouTube via the link above.
