Luke 16:19-31, Rich and Poor
Poverty is a soul-crashing condition. If you don’t know where your next meal comes from, how will you find rest? It is an ever-worsening spiral of worries, fear, and desperation.
The gap between rich and poor in this country is wider than it has ever been since the New Deal created the richest middle class in world history. But between that point and now, it seems that the American dream has been sold to the highest bidder. That our times are volatile, violent, and divisive does not surprise me at all.
In today’s Gospel story, the rich man ends up in eternal torment, while poor Lazarus is carried away by angels. Does hell mean justice for the poor?
Find out this Sunday, 1 0AM, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 735 Front St S., in Issaquah, WA and on YouTube.
