February 16, 2025, Luke 6:17-26: Blessings and Woes
I have seen many ICUs in my time as a pastor. I have seen people hope for healing but die. I have seen people whose lives were forever changed by an accident or a sickness. And often I encountered this question: Why does God do this to me? Sometimes this question was asked aloud, sometimes it stayed under the surface, but most of the time it was there. Why? Why me? What have I done to deserve this?
Many people believe that blessings and woes in their lives occur because God loves or hates them. But in the Lukan beatitudes, Jesus declares blessings especially for those who suffer. How can we know God’s love when we are hurting?
