March 2, 2025, Luke 9:28-36: On the Mountain Top
It seems that mighty deeds of power can happen on mountain tops. Jesus is transfigured as he prays on the mountain top. He meets Moses who received the law from God on the top of the mountain. Jesus also meets Elijah, who prayed on a mountain top when the voice of God spoke to him.
But, of course, these three figures, Jesus, Moses, and Elijah, are the giants of our faith. They seem to have very special relationships to God, and God has installed in them the power to do mighty things. They moved the faith of the world and guided the path of nations. What about the rest of us? Can we have mountaintop experiences, too?
