Romans 5:1-8, Love Casts Out Shame
Paul unapologetically states that we are who God made us to be, and not what others think about us. God pours love into our hearts, generously and abundantly. No human being can take this away from us; no human being has the right to close the door between God and the believer. It is not easy, though, not to care about what others think about you. And you should care. It can be super helpful if a spouse or friend or parent tells you: “This is not ok, you need to do better.” We need such outside correctives.
But nowadays, unhealthy shame is on the rise, especially among younger people. Social media exposes folks to horrific and mean-spirited attacks for all and no reasons. People are ashamed because of the shape of their bodies, the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, their age, all things over which they have no control. Shame is not used as a helpful tool for behavioral correction, but as a sledgehammer to bring people down. We can do better!
Come this Sunday to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 745 Front St S, Issaquah, WA , 10 AM, or on YouTube, and learn how!
