Is Jesus out to hurt people? John 2:13-22
Today we read a scene from the gospel of John. It is the Cleansing of the Temple. If you put that phrase into your internet search machine and click on images, you will see a myriad of pictures of Jesus holding up a whip, seemingly in the process of striking people. I always found that a bit strange. This is the only story in the New Testament which lends itself to the interpretation that Jesus acts in violent, uncontrolled ways. All other stories depict him as a kind and compassionate person who spreads words of love, even love of enemy. Let’s have a closer look at this bible passage and find out: Is Jesus out to hurt people?
