Sermon News, August 10, 2025, Luke 12:32-40: Is There a First-Class Heaven?
Most people know of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun and his grave. To be comfortable for all eternity, king Tut was equipped with vast amounts of wealth, food, and an army of Ushephtis, little statues that would serve as servants in the afterlife. They would cook, clean, brew beer, play music and do everything that the Pharaoh’s heart desired. King Tut, as all Egyptian Pharaohs, tried to take his wealth with him. He shared this desire with many cultures around the globe who wrestle with the finitude of human life and the desire to prolong what they have had here.
But Jesus indicates in many of his parables that you cannot take your wealth with you when you die. We come into this world naked, and we leave it empty-handed. However, many of us live as if we could keep our treasures. So, is there a first-class heaven where the treasure you store here can buy you preferential treatment?
