Matthew 17:1-9: Who is Jesus?

On the mountain top, God says to the disciples: “Listen to Jesus!”

As we all know, listening to prophetic voices is easier said than done. Somehow, prophetic truths stir our souls into protest and denial.Jesus sees so much deeper into our souls than we possibly can ourselves. Jesus understands human nature so much better than we ever could. Jesus’ assessment of the state of humankind is crystal clear and sometimes brutally true. But who wants to hear such an honest assessment? “We people of Jerusalem, we believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, and we torture and kill you nevertheless.” Or, maybe rather: “We kill you just because. We do not want your kingdom. We most certainly do not want your kingdom to come true on earth because we understand perfectly well that in your kingdom we might be called to change.”

What change is necessary in your life? Are you afraid to change? How does Jesus help you do what’s right?

Come on Sunday, 10 AM to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 745 Front St. S., and on YouTube and learn more!
