Stephen Minister Training Course (SMTC)

Stephen Minister Training Course (SMTC): What’s in it for me?

  • You will learn to be more confident, assertive, empathetic, caring, faithful, prepared and equipped to be disciples of Christ.
  • You will develop these skills and be transformed to more fully serve God and those he puts in our path throughout our lifetime.
  • You will have the opportunity to practice these skills together during the training in a loving, non-judgmental and safe place, readying us to share with our families, communities and the world.

Stephen Minister Training Course (SMTC):

  • A minimum of 20 classes in the initial training, 2.5 hours each, with a 15 min break.
  • Occasional one or two-week breaks during the course (for holidays and teacher schedule conflicts).
  • Attendance at each class (or make up any missed classes).
  • Pre-class readings and in-class exercises.
  • $50 for materials (possible subsidy offered)
  • Training is FREE!

Commissioned Stephen Ministers:

  • After completion of the initial Stephen Minister Training Course, and if you choose to serve, you will be commissioned by your congregation to serve as a Stephen Minister.
  • You will be matched with individuals in your church or community who are hurting (i.e., “Care Receivers”).
  • You will meet with your Care Receiver one-on-one, in person, once a week for one hour, until the situation resolves.
  • You will engage in Peer Supervision and Continuing Education once or twice a month (1-3 hours per month).
  • You will serve for 2-3 years and then take a break.

If you are interested in taking this training in the future, please contact Jen Winslow through the church office.
